"Tears are words the heart can’t say" – and Therea's eyes speaks thousands of words how her people failed her. Therea was found wandering in 100+ heat, hungry and thirsty before finding her way to an over populated animal shelter in Texas. Through the help of social media, the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society learned about Therea and immediately took action to get her as her life was in danger. Our volunteers arrived to find an injured Pyr who eyes’ were filled with sadness, hopelessness and despair. Volunteers took Therea to a veterinarian where it was determined she had a neck infection, most likely due to being tethered to a tight chain. After medical care, she was on her way to headquarters to recover and heal. We promised Therea “only good stuff from now.”
Today Therea is a lovely 2 year old pure white, female Great Pyrenees who is intelligent and good-natured. She doesn’t like little dogs and picky with other dogs. She should be an only dog in her forever home because her purpose in life is to love and protect her people and property. She would benefit having someone who stays home or works form home as she is a dog that loves to be around her people. She is cautious of new people but welcomes loving attention once she gets to know them and has a heart for older considerate kids.
Therea rides well in a car and has no problem loading up, even when it means she'll be traveling in a crate. She is housetrained and leash trained. Taking daily long walks or hiking and a yard for play will round out her exercise needs.
Therea is young and will need continued socialization and a Pyr experienced leader in the family who can provide firm but loving boundaries. She is not one for a first time Pyr owner. She has had some basic training but more would benefit her and your bond with her. True to her breed she is exceptionally smart, has a tendency to be dominant and needs to be mentally challenged. While she may show little interest in training and will see what she can get away with, training is a must so stay consistent and patient. If you have a place in your home and most of all, your heart, please fill out an application today.
