Elio is a big sweetheart, born around September 2020, who had a rough start to life. He was found chained to another dog, wandering around. He moved into a foster home and it took some time for him to adjust, but he has settled in really well. While he instantly liked his foster mom, he was slow to warm up to his foster dad and it took a while for him to gain Elio’s trust. Once he figured out he was safe and could trust these humans, Elio became a Velcro pup who pretends he doesn’t understand when his foster parents mention “personal space”! He loves to give the Pyr paw to ask for affection and will give his lucky forever family more love than they could ever have dreamed of getting.

Elio was underweight when he was rescued, but has been gaining weight and loves his dog food. At first, he couldn’t figure out treats meant for chewing, or that it was ok to take a treat directly from someone’s hand when they’re offering. Now he loves treats and he opens his mouth a little bit and you push the treat in, the way you push a credit card into a chip reader!

Elio loves to play with his canine foster brother. He’s not that into toys and just wants to wrestle and chase and would love to have a home with another dog to play with. His foster home has cats and he mostly ignores them since they told him they don’t want a relationship. He loves to take long naps and has very long legs that he sometimes sticks up in the air when he’s sleeping.

Elio is a very smart boy who loves to go on walks and likes to sniff everything and see everyone in the neighborhood. He is very good on the leash during walks and was fast to pick up the cues his foster mom uses to direct him. He is potty trained and quickly learned to use the bell on the door when he needs to go out.

Elio is enjoying being an indoor dog who is finally safe and loved. He deserves a family who will love him and understand he needs patience and guidance. In return he will give love, affection, and will guard the family home from threats like postal workers, cats, and squirrels. He has made so much progress in his foster home and is ready to find his forever!
